Project title
Veterans' HABIT Study
Outline of project
The Veterans’ HABIT Study is being conducted by researchers from the School of Psychology, Swansea University and the Veterans and Families Institute, Anglia Ruskin University. The funding was awarded jointly to all three.
This is a two-stage study, the first stage being the survey we are currently promoting participation for. The second later stage will be one-to-one interviews with veterans, with some of the survey results informing the topics that will be discussed.
The online survey intends to gather information to better understand the pathways to, and predictors of, gambling related harm among UK military veterans. The survey also seeks to understand whether or not there are factors unique to military service or general physical and mental health that may influence whether veterans go on to develop a gambling problem. Participation is for UK veterans only.
The survey consists of several questionnaires and standardised scales, designed to measure some aspects of their personal experiences of gambling, physical and mental health, and some demographic information. They will also be asked some questions about their military service. Broadly speaking, the topics included relate to debt, relationships, gambling, anxiety, depression, and trauma.
