Project title
Assessment of community outcomes and impact of COVID-19 in users of microprocessor-controlled or mechanical knee joints
Outline of project
This study aims to compare activity, mobility, social functioning, depression, anxiety, and disorder-specific quality of life in people with transfemoral amputation or knee disarticulation who are established users of MPKs with users of a prosthesis with non-MPKs. We would also look into the portion of the effect size explained by activity level, level of amputation, types of the prosthetic knee joint and impact of COVID-19 pandemic.
In this matched-group cohort study, we will recruit people with amputation who are users of a prosthesis with either MPKs or n-MPKs joints from Amputee Rehabilitation Centres (n=44) in the UK. We will also advertise the study via the webpages of amputee charities in the UK. We will collect patient-reported outcome data using questionnaires on activity, mobility, social functionality, depression, anxiety, disorder-specific quality of life and impact of COVID-19 pandemic. Multivariate and regression analysis will be performed to answer research questions. (Project funded by the American Association of Prosthetics and Orthotics)Contact email
