A former Sapper is walking 96 miles barefoot across the West Highland Way to raise funds for Blesma.

Craig Curtis will walk from Milngavie, north of Glasgow, to Fort William in the Scottish Highlands in a linear long-distance route, with an element of hill walking.

The Royal Engineer turned personal trainer from Lanarks is currently “preparing his feet” for the tough terrain ahead.

The 36-year-old said: “I’m currently just getting my feet into the swing of things by wearing vivo barefoot shoes to help my feet adapt to feeling everything on the ground. I also completed a 5k treadmill so I could get my feet badly blistered and into a state of what they could be like.

“I’m also reading and getting advice online from people who have done the challenge before. It’s a long process to get my feet prepared, but its better to approach it this way than throw myself in at the deep end.”
