David Borden Smith has put his best wheel forward.

After taking on the role of Fundraiser David has decided to lead by example, and the veteran is going to be doing a 12-hour sponsored cycle event today, on the 4th August 2021, which will see David Cycle by using his new Tri-Bike, Hand-Pedal from his home in Larkhall to Cambuslang where he will carry on indoors in the Energie Fitness Gym for another 8 hours before cycling back home again.

David said 'When I took the role on for fund-raising for our Area I thought it would be better to let my actions speak louder than my words, four of the Charities which have supported me over the years, I will now support back.'

David was injured in Northern Ireland being bombed through an Improvised Explosive Device in Armagh in 1985 and injured his Spine and has no use of his legs at all, after suffering other medical problems he was supported to get 'on his bike' by his GP and other staff in his local Surgery.

He went onto say 'I have attended Erskine for respite over the years and I have been supported by Blesma and Scottish War Blinded (now Sight Scotland Veterans), and being part of the Legion family, I wanted to support our local Area Volunteers and Coordinators who are doing so much to help veterans and their families'.

Chris Allen Manager at Energie Fitness Gym advised 'When the Area Chairman of the Legion, Mick Connor asked if we could help out with this event, there wasn't a second's hesitation, I know my staff and clients are only too happy to help out David doing this cycle event, we are preparing a small area for David and those that will support David in the Gym for that period of time and to support other charities whilst doing so, makes us all extremely happy.'

Emma Gration, Outreach Officer for Blesma says; 'When we got the call to say what David was intending to do, we were so happy that he had chosen Blesma as one of his nominated charities for this challenge and we are proud to support him.'
