Leigh Bland takes on a charity challenge!

A Royal Air Force Veteran, who had his leg amputated below the knee after a severe ankle injury, is aiming to cycle 100 miles in one day to raise vital funds for two Military charities that have supported him during UK lockdown. Leigh Bland, 40, from Leicestershire, plans to complete the 100-mile cycle on 14 June in aid Blesma, The Limbless Veterans and America military charity Wounded Warrior Project. Leigh was due to take part in the 2020 Prudential RideLondon, but the event has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now he will be cycling 100 miles

Blesma at Home workout (Level 1 Session 2)

Gregg Stevenson has devised a weekly home workout especially for his fellow Members, to help us keep our mind and bodies healthy during lock-down. "My name is Gregg and I am a Blesma Member that works at SMRC Preston (the prosthetics centre gym). We focus on the benefits that strength, fitness and mobility can bring to amputees and wheelchair users. I intend to develop several fitness sessions for you to try at home, with minimal equipment. Tim regains his freedom during lockdown

Blesma Member and double amputee Tim has regained his freedom and independence after Blesma provided him with a wheelchair. Tim, who joined the Royal Artillery at 16, has been having difficulties using his prosthetic legs, leaving him unable to complete essential food shops or walk his dog. “At the minute, my prosthetics are not fitting right and it hurts if I walk on them for too long. Limb centres can’t help me right now and the wheelchair I had was too heavy, making it unsuitable to lift into my car as I’ve had many operations on my right wrist,” said the 4

Blesma takes tea with the Spinal Injuries Association

On the 1st June Blesma attended the Spinal Injury Associations’ (SIA) daily virtual café. BSO for the South Pat Donnachie was invited to share his knowledge and experience around all things Blesma with a group of the SIA’s support officers, beneficiaries, and representatives from Limb Power – a charity who exist to engage amputees and those with limb impairments in physical activity, sport and the arts .
