Project title
‘Exploring the experiences of lower limb amputees on the importance of balance and balance specific rehabilitation post amputation’
Outline of project
Online interviews will be conducted exploring how lower limb amputees feel about their balance pre- and post-amputation. This includes how they feel their balance rehabilitation helped or did not help them, and their thoughts and recommendations for future clinical practice. This is open to anyone with uni- or bilateral lower limb amputations for longer than 1 year, with and without prosthesis.
The study objectives are:
1) Understand how balance impacts the quality of life and daily activities of lower limb amputees
2) Explore the perceptions and emotional responses of lower limb amputees on their initial balance post amputation
3) Gather amputees’ thoughts, feelings and recommendations on including balance specific training into rehabilitation post-operation
4) Explore commonalities and themes between different amputees and factors that influence individual balance experiences.
