Former Royal Signals soldier Lexi Chambers has lived with debilitating and constant pain for nearly 20 years. Things got so bad that she made the decision to amputate her leg.
Lexi's pain was caused by Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) – a form of chronic pain. Over the 20 years, Lexi has endured 20 operations, starting with the removal of a toe and culminating in the elective amputation of her left leg.
As the pain became unbearable, Lexi was forced to leave the Army career she loved.
Following Lexi's limb loss, Blesma stepped in to support her recovery and assist with any mobility issues. Our mission has always been to support veterans like Lexi, ensuring they are cared for throughout their lives.
I am fortunate to belong to Blesma because it is focused on that bond, that willingness to help each other. It has that strong sense of camaraderie that helps you through the really tough times. I can’t thank Blesma enough.

More about Lexi's story
Lexi still has CRPS, but the pain has reduced after having pioneering Targeted Muscle Reinnervation (TMR) surgery on the nerves in her amputated leg.
Despite the loss of a limb and continued pain, Lexi has gone on to complete three half marathons, two full marathons (including the London Marathon), and a triathlon. Along the way, she has set four new world records! Her resilience and determination is truly inspirational.
Blesma has been fantastic throughout. My Blesma Support Officer has been with me to so many appointments; guiding and advising me, and helping me with my mobility issues. I had the feeling that my life had almost gone, but suddenly having the possibility of doing the things I love again is amazing. There’s a camaraderie that everyone who has served in the Armed Forces cherishes.
