Veteran to walk length of UK in just one month to raise money for military charity

Owen Murray, 35, from Reading will be walking 874 miles from John O’Groats to Land’s End to raise money for Blesma, The Limbless Veterans.

A Commercial Trainer for Jaguar Land Rover, Owen will be starting on the Saturday 17 June and will need to average 30 miles a day in order for him to finish 30 days later at Land’s End. He will be carrying everything he needs to survive, with food and water replenishments every few days.

Owen, a veteran of the Royal Green Jackets (now 2 RIFLES), knew he wanted to take on this challenge for charity, but was moved to support Blesma after meeting a fundraiser at Salisbury Fete who told him about the charity’s work.

Owen said: “I have always had this challenge as an ambition and wanted to use it as a way to raise money for charity. Being ex-Army I consider myself lucky to have arrived home in one piece and lots of other guys were not so lucky. I learnt about Blesma from one of their fundraisers, did some research into the charity and loved the look of the work that they do.”

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is the national charity for all limbless service men and women, their widows and dependants. It was formed in the years following the First World War and became a national charity in 1932.
