Manchester cadets raise over £1,000 for limbless veterans charity Blesma

Two university officer cadets have raised over £1,000 for military charity Blesma by completing the ‘Suffering 10k’ – a ten-kilometre obstacle mud run in the grounds of Rockingham Castle in Leicestershire.

Isobel Hands and Lucy Culpin are both students based in Manchester and are officer cadets at Manchester and Salford University Officer Training Corps.

The Suffering 10k challenge features over 25 different obstacles, many involving traversing water, including monkey bars, ‘the water crawl’, walls, ‘killer hills’ and many more!

Being cadets, the two ladies already had a descent level of fitness, but that didn’t stop the event from being a gruelling one!

Isobel said after the challenge: “It was honestly the hardest thing mentally and physically I’ve ever done, but despite all the bruises it was such good fun and felt so great afterwards!”

Christina Crook, Blesma’s Fundraising Relationship Executive, says: “It was an absolute pleasure to work with these two ladies. The amount of effort they have put into both the challenge and into their fundraising has been so great to see and I want to thank them for everything on behalf of Blesma!”

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is the national charity for all limbless service men and women, their widows and dependants. It was formed in the years following the First World War and became a national charity in 1932.
