Veteran takes on London 2 Cambridge challenge for limbless veterans

A former soldier has raised over £1000 for limbless veterans.

George Denaro ran the London 2 Cambridge challenge to raise money for Blesma, the Limbless Veterans.

George, 31, from South West London, trained for the 100km challenge by running 40km to 50km a week. The challenge took him 13hours and 2minutes to complete.

“The run was mentally and physically challenging,” said George. “Around the 75k mark was the toughest part for me because I was over half way, but still had quite a bit to go. I was really feeling it in my legs at this point.”

George served in the Queen’s Royal Hussars for seven years deploying on operations to Iraq and Afghanistan, which was part of his reason for fundraising for a military charity.

“Being part of the army myself, I have a few friends who came back wounded and some of them have really been helped out by Blesma through their activities or work. It’s a charity that is really important to me.”

In total George has raised £1,029 for Blesma.

Zanika Fearon, Community & Events Fundraising Manager at Blesma says: “It was great having George part of Team Blesma. He raised an incredible amount and we are very thankful to George and anyone who took on the London 2 Cambridge for Blesma.”
