Local family fun-day to raise money for injured service personnel
13 May 2015
Leicester-based veteran Paul Swain is organising a family fundraising event at the Keepers Lodge Public House (1 Fletcher Mall, Leicester LE4 1DF) on Sunday 24 May to raise money for Blesma, The Limbless Veterans.
The event is free entry and will start at midday. There is something for all the family including entertainment from a local band and solo singers, a bouncy castle and face-painting throughout the day. Later on in the evening, there will be a DJ.
There will also be a raffle with fantastic prizes including a brand new gas barbeque, bottles of champagne, a round of golf for four at the Cosby Golf Club and £100 of Next vouchers. There will also be an auction for prizes including a full day tattoo session worth £600 and a holiday in the luxurious Las Lomas Village in Spain.
Tickets for the raffle cost just £1 for a strip and can be bought on the day, or at the Boots store in the nearby Bowmont Leys Shopping Centre.
While out with his regiment in Afghanistan in 2011, Paul was helping to teach the local Afghan National Army when he was caught an IED blast. He lost his left arm below the elbow and suffered serious flesh wounds to his legs and damage to his internal organs.
Paul says: “The support Blesma provided me throughout my recovery process has been second to none, and this will continue for the rest of my life. This event is all about raising money for a fantastic cause and having a good time while doing it! Please spread the word and come along to show your support.”
Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is the national charity for all limbless service men and women, their widows and dependants. It was formed in the years following the First World War and became a national charity in 1932.
