Local Brentwood company raise over £5,000 for limbless veterans

28 May 2015

Nick’s Tyres of Ongar Road, Brentwood have raised £5,500 for Blesma, The Limbless Veterans who are based in nearby Chadwell Heath.

They achieved this by putting forward a team to take part in this year’s Nuclear Races at Kelvedon Hatch on Saturday 16 May. The Nick’s Tyres team joined nearly 200 other runners in the ‘Blesma Wave’ which saw participants take on either 6 or 12 kilometres of Essex countryside that had been riddled with obstacles.

Nick Hart, Chief Executive of Nick’s Tyres, says: “My wife and daughter completed the Nuclear Race last year with our neighbours Julie & Rob Rusz, Rob mentioned what a great idea it would be to try and get a Blesma team together. He organised the troops and all together over 190 people ran in our rush, raising much needed funds. Every one we contacted agreed what a great cause it was and donated generously. Now we are looking forward to next year, I think!”

Community and Events Manager at Blesma Laura Hyde says: “On behalf of everyone at Blesma I’d like to thank Nick and his team for their fantastic fundraising efforts and for joining us for the Nuclear Rush – I really hope they do decide to join us again next year!”

Blesma are looking for people to take part in the Nuclear Races next year, which takes place on the 14th May. If you are interested, please contact Laura Hyde on 020 8548 7089 or email communityevents@blesma.org.

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is the national charity for all limbless service men and women, their widows and dependants. It was formed in the years following the First World War and became a national charity in 1932.
