Engineer commits to incredible weight loss to run marathon, raising money for military charity
23 June 2015
Andy Broughton, 33, of Bolton lost 14 stone over 18 months through a tough fitness regime and diet plan before taking on the Rocknroll Marathon in Liverpool on Sunday 14 June completing the 26 miles in 4 hours and 47 minutes and raising around £1,500 for Blesma, The Limbless Veterans.
It was while losing weight that electrical engineer Andy decided to sign up for the marathon following the example of friends who had taken on Ironman challenges and marathons themselves. He chose to fundraise for Blesma after conversations with friend and Blesma Member Peter De Luce about the charity and their work.
Two years ago I never would have dreamt of running a marathon, but after losing 14 stone I thought ‘why not?!’ I chose to run for Blesma after seeing and hearing about the amazing work they do from Peter. I want to thank everyone who has donated so far for supporting me, and for supporting Blesma.
