Big BBQ hosted by Veteran raises nearly £600 in aid of injured service personnel

11 June 2015

Veteran and amputee Steven Beasley, organised a BBQ and fun day at The Nags Head, Hulland Ward, Derbyshire, which raised £595 for military charity Blesma, The Limbless Veterans as part of the charity's annual 'Blesma Week' fundraising and awareness initiative.

Steve, a former Private in the Worcester & Sherwood Foresters, chose to fundraise for Blesma after losing his left leg above the knee following a road traffic accident in 2005. He now volunteers with Blesma as a Welfare Officer, assisting the regional Support Officers to support local Members.

Steve, a resident of Derbyshire, says: “I wanted to give back to Blesma after the organisation helped me following my life-changing incident. This was a way of getting others involved and having a good time while raising money for a great cause. I know this money will go towards helping out veterans like me rebuild their lives after injury.”

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is the national charity for all limbless service men and women, their widows and dependants. It was formed in the years following the First World War and became a national charity in 1932.

If you are interested in taking part in Blesma Week 2016 or running your own fundraising event, contact the fundraising team on 0208 590 1124 or email fundraising@blesma.org
