Windsor Castle offers royal support to a historic military charity
9 April 2014
Staff and residents of Windsor Castle recently held a charity sale to raise money for Blesma, The Limbless Veterans, raising a total of £3855.22 in the space of three hours.
Plants, home-made cakes and other donated items were sold to staff and residents of the Castle. In addition to this, three members of the Honourable Artillery Company Light Cavalry also attended in full ceremonial uniform to add to the flavour of the day.
The sale was a continuation of the relationship between Blesma and Windsor Castle, building on the Castle’s support for the charity’s cycling event - SR UK in October 2013 which saw 30 injured service personnel from the UK and the United States set off on a 5-day cycling tour of South England from the Castle, waved off by HRH Princess Beatrice of York.
The sale was kindly organised by the office of the Superintendent of the Castle.
A spokesperson for the Castle said: “The community here at Windsor Castle is very proud to support this worthwhile cause and a great day was had by all who attended. We look forward to continuing this relationship with Blesma into the future.”
Annette Hall, Head of Fundraising at Blesma says: “On behalf of all our staff and Members, I can’t thank Mark and everyone at Windsor Castle enough for their generous support for Blesma over the past six months. Their generosity will go a long way in helping us to continue providing vital support to injured veterans.”
Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is the national charity for all limbless service men and women, their widows and dependants. It was formed in the years following the First World War and became a national charity in 1932.
