Injured veteran battles to peak

10 June 2014

Just three days after D-Day, double amputee, injured veteran and paralympian Nick Beighton along with his 3 team mates have summited the second highest mountain in the United Kingdom as the Beeline Britain team carry on their journey to become the world’s first team to go in a straight-line from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Their grueling journey, supported by Prince Harry and the Endevaour Fund, continued today as they left Linn of Dee at 0600h heading for the Cairngorm Mountains and the summit of Ben MacDui, the second highest mountain in the UK standing at 4295ft.

They reached the peak, which stands in the centre of the arctic-like Cairngorms plateau, at 1300h and preceded to hike across the plateau, where they would mountain bike down to Glenmoore Lodge.

This mammoth journey carries on in the same vain as it began, with great excitement and a strong will to complete the challenge, Nick managing to do all of this with just his arms, on a hand bike and crutches for the hiking.

There are three stages left of this incredible journey; a cycle from the Cairngorms to Lossiemouth, a Kayak across the Moray Firth and then a final cycle to John O’Groats.

The support has been incredible all the way. But, it must continue with all this being in aid of Blesma and donations can be made to Blesma by texting “Line 59” to 70070 or go to www.justgiving.com/beelinebritain.

You can follow the team’s progress on their live tracker at http://yb.tl/beeline2014 or at www.beelinebritain.com and their progress will be updated on twitter @beelinebritain and www.facebook.com/beelinebritain
