Veterans’ Transition Review
12 February 2014Lord Ashcroft KCMG PC published the Veterans’ Transition Review yesterday, his report examined the transition of Armed Forces personnel from their military careers to civilian life at the end of their service. The independent Review has consulted widely with the Armed Forces, the MOD and other government bodies, industry and the Third Sector, and has heard directly from hundreds of Service Leavers about their experience of transition. Ian Waller, Acting Chief Executive for Blesma, The Limbless Veterans was invited to the review and welcomed the report.

4 February 2014SPVA’s Veterans UK Helpline is changing its free phone telephone number. The new number is 0808 1914218 and was launched on 4 Feb 2014. About the Helpline The Veterans UK Helpline deals with approx 16,000 phone calls and 1,900 emails per month from Veterans, their families or representatives in respect of a wide range of Veterans related issues. The helpline acts as the 1st point of contact into the SPVA, referring where appropriate to other partner organisations, statutory & voluntary bodies.

25 January 2014An amputee motorcycle paramedic from the West Midlands donated 3 motorcycles to a London-based military charity on Saturday 25 April in Aldridge. John Brown from Walsall had to have his left leg amputated after a road accident whilst on duty shattered his pelvis in 2007. The 53-year-old says: “I am not looking for a pat on the back here, I think I am very fortunate to have survived and have an incredible amount of admiration for those who incur such injuries by putting their lives on the line.
