Marking the centenary of the First World War
30 July 2014On Monday, 4th August we marked the start of WW1 at Westminster Abbey with a vigil on the Centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. The Dean and Chapter of Westminster held a candlelit Vigil, in presence of Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall, to make mark the outbreak of the First World War. The Vigil took place between 10pm and 11pm and the evening included prayer and penitence. It concluded with the Abbey being sent into darkness except for a single light on the Grave of the Unknown Warrior. The light was extinguished at the stroke if 11pm - to reflect lights

Fancy being immortalised in bronze?
10 July 2014Blesma's Celebrity Supporter and HM the Queen's sculptress Westminster Abbey is keen to sculpt Members. She most recently sculpted 24-yr-old Private Alex Stringer who lost his legs and an arm when he was injured in Afghanistan as part of Blesma Week on 4 June. The sculptures of the chosen Members' could eventually form part of Frances' exhibition in aid of Blesma next year and will be immortalised amongst her other work including HM The Queen, Prince Philip, Sir Stev

2 July 2014By Blesma Member Ron Bright, 83 I am a relatively new Member of Blesma even though I sustained my injuries long ago, 1950ish. In fact, when I was doing my National Service, as it was then. When my unit was de-mobbed I was in hospital and so I lost contact with all the guys, as well as all my belongings. There were no goodbyes or keep in touch for me.
