Much like wheelchair rugby, this is a full-contact, no-holds-barred sport that is definitely not for the faint-hearted. The players propel themselves with a pair of sticks; one end spiked for gripping the ice while the other has a blade for hitting the puck.
Jake Oakley, of the Sheffield Steelkings para Ice Hockey club is reaching out to Members, to see if they might like to give the sport a go.
This sport is fast paced, highly skilled and physically demanding. It's great for people with lower body disabilities and injuries and men and women from all backgrounds are welcome at the club.
As well as opportunities at club level, there is also the opportunity to represent Great Britain on a world stage. Jake is also pushing find classifiable women participants at the moment, with the view of establishing a women's team and competition in future Paralympic games.
From a club point of view, the Steelkings have two teams that compete in the British League and their senior squad are the current league and playoff champions.
Obviously, government restrictions must lift before the squad can start training on ice again, but nonetheless Jake thought this was a good time reach out.
Anyone interested in a taster session with the Sheffield Steelkings or help finding a club in thier local area can contact Jake on sheffieldsteelkings@gmail.com
There are currently clubs in Sheffield, Cardiff, Manchester, Peterborough and a GB team with plans for more teams in discussion.
