Afghanistan war Veteran Micky Yule wins Paralympic powerlifting Bronze for GB
Micky Yule has won his first Paralympic medal in the men’s 72kg powerlifting after listing 182kg.
The medal comes five years after finishing fifth at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.
First place went to Malaysia’s Bonnie Gustin and silver was taken by Egypt’s Mahmoud Attia.
The born Scotsman served in the Royal Engineers and lost both his legs when he stepped on an improvised explosive device while serving in Afghanistan in 2010.
Micky turned to sport to overcome his injuries and soon found himself a place on the Scottish team heading to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014. He was then made captain of the UK powerlifting team competing at the London Invictus Games.
Despite his win at this year’s Tokyo Paralympic games, the 42-year-old has vowed this will be his last Paralympic performance with his last competition taking place at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022.
