Serving soldier Wayne Sibthorpe is hosting a Northern Soul Valentines charity event to raise money for Blesma, The Limbless Veterans.

The event is on Sunday 12 February and starts at 1200hrs (noon) at the White Ensign Club on South Street in Exeter with a variety of DJs playing a range of Northern Soul, Motown, modern and 60s music throughout the afternoon and into the evening.

There will also be a raffle held with prizes such as adult ballet classes, t-shirts, a Ray Charles vinyl album and CDs.

Wayne became familiar with Blesma’s work with injured Service personnel through his own military career, and through his friend Dave Perry who fundraised for the charity before sadly passing away due to cancer.

Wayne said: "Being a serving member of the Armed Forces for over 30 years I have seen first-hand both the initial physical and psychological impact and the long term effects that severe trauma of the mind and body can have on our soldiers and their families. I would just like to say that I can't think of a better charity to support than Blesma. Anything we can do to raise funds to help and assist our limbless veterans and families is a blessing. Please come down and support our Northern Soul event at the White Ensign club in Exeter on the 12th of February!”

Christina Crook, Fundraising Relationship Executive at Blesma said: “The raffle they are going to have sounds like it is going to be incredible - so many prizes! Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is the national charity for all limbless service men and women, their widows and dependants. It was formed in the years following the First World War and became a national charity in 1932.
