Road Wizards Motorcycle Club raise a massive £10,000 for Blesma

Oldham-based motorcycle club Road Wizards have handed a cheque to Blesma, The Limbless Veterans for £10,000 following a series of fundraising events.

The Club raised the money through various events held throughout 2015, including the club’s Annual Charity Bike Show, Halloween parties, a raffle and a 10k run.

Blesma was chosen as a beneficiary charity when Club Secretary Sharon McDaid met a double amputee Blesma Member through her husband Ozzy after receiving some difficult medical news.

Sharon said: “I was struggling to come to terms with such a massive change to my life. After talking to Bernard and listening to what he had gone through it made me realise I could carry on and I did have something to live for.
At that time Road Wizards was looking at a new Charity to raise money for so I put Blesma forward. The club all agreed Blesma was a very worthy charity and I’d like to thank the club chairman, vice chairman, secretary, treasurer, committee, and all Road Wizards members, without whom we could not have raised this money.”

Road Wizards presented a cheque to Blesma’s Associate Director of Fundraising Barbara Warner and Blesma Support Officer for the North West Mike Downes at a celebration evening on Saturday 12 December to round off the year.

Barbara said: “The energy and dedication that the Road Wizards have shown Blesma has been fantastic. For three years now they have raised thousands of pounds for us to carry on with our vital work and it’s because of people like them that our Members can live safe in the knowledge that Blesma will be on hand to help them throughout their lives. My heartfelt thanks go out to everyone involved.”

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is the national charity for all limbless service men and women, their widows and dependants. It was formed in the years following the First World War and became a national charity in 1932.
