Nottingham Student on Valentine’s Day Cycle Challenge across Central America
3 February 2015
Adam Bowman, 17, from Stapleford, Nottingham is set to take on an epic challenge to cycle 440km across Central America over a week starting on the 14th February to raise funds to support injured service personnel.
The demanding adventure has been organised through Adam’s School, George Spencer Academy. A total of 28 students will be cycling through Costa Rica, Panama and Nicaragua for charity and Adam has chosen to raise money for Blesma because of his family connections to the military.
Adam says: “This is no easy way to fund raise, I can tell you! I chose Blesma as my personal charity as my Mum is a civilian working for Army Bomb Disposal and my stepfather is an Ammunition Technician within the Army and deals with IEDs on a daily basis. Both know people who have been affected by IEDs, including some who have suffered life-changing injuries or who have unfortunately been killed.”
Laura Hyde, Community & Events Manager at Blesma, says: “It’s so fitting that the team will set off on Valentine’s Day as this challenge will be a real ‘labour of love’. Adam has put so much effort into his training, and we are delighted that he has chosen to support Blesma. Every penny that Adam raises will go towards supporting our injured service personnel through activities and welfare support. We honestly couldn’t continue our work without the support of people like Adam.”
Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is the national charity for all limbless service men and women, their widows and dependants. It was formed in the years following the First World War and became a national charity in 1932.
