Amateur photographer releases limited edition ‘Armistice Dawn’ to raise money for Blesma

15 January 2015

An amateur photographer has put together a limited edition print of the famous poppy display at the Tower of London, which he has named ‘Armistice Dawn’ to raise money for Blesma, The Limbless Veterans and the Royal British Legion.

Mark Bentley, from Stevenage is a Security Officer with a passion for photography and military history. He visited London on Remembrance Day last year and took the photo at dawn before joining the Remembrance Parade at the Cenotaph.

The photograph has been limited to 1914 prints to mark the year the First World War began. All profits from the sales of the photograph, which can be bought framed or unframed, will be coming to Blesma and the Royal British Legion.

Mark was inspired to sell the prints after someone he met at the Tower said she would buy the photos he had been taking. He had previously heard about Blesma’s work with injured service personnel after going on an organised tour of RAF Coningsby that raised money for Blesma.

Mark said: “One of the provoking thoughts I had while at the Tower of London and viewing the poppies at dawn, was the soldiers waiting for an attack on what was the last day of the war, and then hearing about the ceasefire later in the morning. After visiting RAF Coningsby, I wanted to do my bit in some way and this seemed like the perfect way to do so.”

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is the national charity for all limbless service men and women, their widows and dependants. It was formed in the years following the First World War and became a national charity in 1932.
