Friend of Blesma raising money to donate Christmas Hampers to wounded veterans
Sonia Klein, whose husband Michael served as an Airborne Ranger in the United States Army, is hoping to raise £2,000 to make sure that all 95 Blesma Members living in London receive a Christmas hamper from the Basket Brigade.
Sonia, from Chadwell Heath where Blesma has its Headquarters, is well-aware of the care and support injured veterans deserve as her brother-in-law Eddie is a triple amputee after stepping on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) while serving with the US Army in Afghanistan.
Sonia says: “I am delighted to help bring together Blesma and The Basket Brigade, two of my favourite charitable endeavours, in support of the 95 London based Members of Blesma. Thanks to this thoughtful initiative, supported by donations from the US and UK, limbless veterans in London will receive a morale-boosting hamper this festive season. I wish I could organise one for all Blesma Members across the UK, but I will work on that for next year!”
The Basket Brigade is run by The London Yes Group who have motivational speaker and mentor Harry Singha at their head. The London Yes Group is a local not-for-profit Personal Development Community that provides its members with the resources which enable them to make a positive difference in their own lives and the lives of others. They run the Basket Brigade every year with Yes Group members and volunteers putting together thousands of hampers to be delivered across London.
Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is the national charity for all limbless service men and women, their widows and dependants. It was formed in the years following the First World War and became a national charity in 1932.
