A prosthetic leg signed by rosk legend Ozzy Osbourne is helping to raise funds for injured military veterans.
The Black Sabbath frontman, whose funeral procession attracted thousands of mourners in July, autographed the prosthetic during a visit to Headley Court in 2011. Matt Wilson, who was blown up by an IED while on patrol in Afghanistan, is now auctioning his prized possession to raise money for the Association.
“Ozzy spent the day with us at Headley Court,” said Matt, who was at the rehab unit for a year after his injury while serving with The Rifles. “He was taken aback by the severity of our injuries at first, but he was really interested and was very funny. He and his wife, Sharon, spent ages with us and you could tell he was moved.
“Everyone was getting stuff signed, so I asked if he would sign my prosthetic, and he thought it was a great idea.”
Matt, from Tewkesbury, whose father was killed by the IRA while serving in Northern Ireland in 1989, joined the Army at 19 and served in Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan, where he was injured in 2009 by an IED that resulted in a below-knee amputation of his left leg.
“I’ve kept the leg for all this time, but I hope it can now raise some money,” said Matt, who will split the proceeds between Blesma and Legacy Moto, which supports injured motorcyclists and ‘anyone who has lost their way in life’
