Volunteers and Members from Blesma were invited to Somerset County Cricket Club’s T20 match against Surrey on Friday 10 June to raise money and awareness of the charity to the Club’s supporters.

Double amputee Simon Harmer was the Guest of Honour and took part in the coin toss at the beginning of the match. “It’s been an absolutely incredible day,” he said.  “I’ve been made to feel really welcome by the Club and the spectators.  It’s an amazing ground and a great group of people."

"It was nice to speak to Jim Allenby at the toss and he asked me about what had happened to me and was really interested in Blesma and what they do. I was hit in Afghanistan in 2009 and lost both my legs and damaged my arm amoungst other injuries. Life is about moving on and that’s what I like to do: face the challenges and move on."

Somerset CCC CEO Guy Lavender said: “Blesma do a wonderful job of supporting former service men and women and it was an absolute privilege to work with them during this match.  The wide range of support that they offer to those who need it is exceptional and I am delighted that we have been able to help raise funds for them.  I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Members and supporters of both Somerset and Surrey for giving so generously to this very worthy cause.”

Barbara Warner, Associate Director of Fundraising for Blesma said: “Today has been amazing.  Everyone has been really enthusiastic and all of the staff here have been incredible.  I must say a huge thank you to all the Blesma volunteers who came along to help today and we are delighted to have been able to be here to spread the word.”
