On Saturday 2nd July 2016, fearless Blesma Members and supporters will be marking the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme by leaping 13,500ft from a plane.

Fall for the Fallen is Blesma’s annual charity tandem skydiving event to honour our fallen heroes. Jumps will be taking place in Wiltshire, Peterborough and Lincolnshire and last year the event raised £29,120.

Joining the group is 81-year-old Blesma Member David Bland, making this the third time David has skydived. Last year, David and 11 other people took part in an Abseil down Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower for his 80th birthday. It was a first for Blesma and one that will be repeated again.

On David's 80th birthday he completed an abseil down Portsmouth's Spinnaker Tower.

“At my age there isn’t much you can do to fundraise,” said David, from Chichester, West Sussex.

“I can’t cycle or run the Marathon but I can jump from a plane. I want to support the men and women of Blesma as much as I can. It’s all for the members and helping them. I have never really needed Blesma like many others have, but know that they will always be there for me.”

David became a member of Blesma in 1955 after he lost his right eye in a training accident whilst serving with the Wiltshire Regiment as a Corporal.
