On Monday, 4th August we marked the start of WW1 at Westminster Abbey with a vigil on the Centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.

The Dean and Chapter of Westminster held a candlelit Vigil, in presence of Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall, to make mark the outbreak of the First World War.

The Vigil took place between 10pm and 11pm and the evening included prayer and penitence. It concluded with the Abbey being sent into darkness except for a single light on the Grave of the Unknown Warrior. The light was extinguished at the stroke if 11pm - to reflect lights going out across the nation.
