The first Invictus Games came to an end Sunday with a star-studded line-up for the Closing Ceremony. The games have featured more than 400 competitors – both serving military personnel and veterans – across nine disciplines. Teams have travelled from the USA, Afghanistan, New Zealand and across Europe to take part.
The Games have showcased the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation, and generate a wider understanding and respect of those who serve their country.
Kicking off with the Opening Ceremony on Wednesday 10 September, the Invictus Games continued through the weekend with a series of action packed sports including Athletics, Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Rugby, Powerlifting, Road cycling and much more. The event was to be brought to end on Sunday evening with a concert at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in east London in front of a sell-out crowd of 26,000.
