Great North Swim 2023

Take on the 1 mile challenge, which is the equivalent of 64 lengths of a 25m swimming pool and help support our Injured Veterans! 

Expect stunning scenery, the best of local food and drink, outdoor activities, culture, art, history and thousands of like-minded people coming together. Think of it more as an open water adventure than a race.

You will be able to choose a timeslot of your choice on either 10th or 11th June.

Registration and Fundraising

The registration fee is £25.00 and there is a minimum sponsorship target of £175.

How do I pick my timeslot?

Once you are registered with us, we will guide you through everything you need to do. We will send you details on how you can select your chosen timeslot on 10th or 11th June. Time slots have limited spaces, so please sign up early to get the most choice.

Do I have to wear a wet suit?

Wetsuit use is optional at all Great Swim events for water temperatures of 15C or above. Swimmers choosing not to wear a wetsuit MUST use an approved high visibility tow float, swimmers wearing wetsuits can also choose to swim with a tow float. This only applies to swimmers aged over 16 years old. Swimmers aged under 16 will be required to wear a wetsuit.

Will there be lifeguards?

There will be lots of fully trained water safety kayakers, lifeguards and boats monitoring you all the way around, so you're never far from some friendly support.

If you find yourself struggling, or in need of a little breather, just lay on your back or tread water and pop your hand up, and one of the safety team will make their way to you to check everything is ok.
