Three-time Olympic rowing champion assembles ‘Paravengers’ to take on Race the Thames for Blesma
31 March 2021Retired British Olympic rower Peter Reed OBE is leading a team of injured veterans and able-bodied civilians as they virtually race the distance of the River Thames (346 km).Team Paravengers, who met at Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Stanford Hall and have eight functioning legs between them, were called to duty to raise funds for military charity Blesma, The Limbless Veterans and London Youth Rowing as they race over a hundred other virtual crews from around the world.The team assembled by Peter includes retired British rower Andrew Triggs Hodge OBE as well as amputees Alfi

Meet our new staff members - Christine Landess BSO North East
28 March 2021Tell us a bit about your work background? After studying for a degree in psychology, I have always worked in the charity sector. I spent many years working in homeless services in London, starting out as a resettlement officer working with rough sleepers, and ending up managing hostels and support services for prolific offenders and people with addiction problems. Along the way, I was privileged to meet many fantastic and inspiring people who overcame huge challenges and adversity, and I always have the hope and belief that things can change for the better.

Blesma awarded by the Big Salute!
27 March 2021The BFBS Big Salute is our annual campaign that raises vital funds for armed forces charities. It is separate to grants awarded under the BFBS Welfare Fund scheme. Each year BFBS invites forces charities to apply for grants to support specific projects for the serving military, families or veterans with every penny raised goes to the beneficiary projects. The Big Salute has recently awarded a grant to Blesma, to allow us to continue our programme of virtual Activities, which have kept many Members connected and conquered isolation during the lockdown.

MIND to host sessions for Blesma Families
26 March 2021Mind Sheffield is offering family members of someone who experiences PTSD, a three week course via Zoom. This course is structured as follows: Week 1- Understanding PTSD and mental illness- Understanding anger- Living alongside PTSD and mental illness Week 2- Communication and reconnection with a family member- Problem solving in relationships- Supporting my family with low mood and depression Week 3
