It’s a different life after lockdown for Dominic
8 October 2020Blesma Member who lost his job due to the coronavirus pandemic has found new employment thanks to the support of a number of charities. In March, Dominic Howells was a self-employed first aid trainer, but when the UK went into lockdown and businesses began to close temporarily, Dominic quickly found himself out of work. “A few weeks before lockdown began all the work dried up,” said Dominic, who served in the Royal Engineers for six years and lost the sight in his left eye after a roadtraffic accident in 1992. “I soon found myself in a position wher

Improving health and wellbeing support for armed forces families in England
5 October 2020At Blesma, we know from our work with Armed Forces Families that they can face additional pressures, health issues and barriers to accessing NHS services. Many organisations are now looking to work on easing the pressures that Armed Forces Families face, and improve their options when it comes to accessing local services more easily across England. NHS England and NHS Improvement want to ensure that those families get the care and support they need from clinicians and people who understand the Armed Forces.

Foundation does John O’Groats to Land’s End with a difference
4 October 2020Veteran Mark Bowra, who suffered a stroke in 2014, has completed a 1,000-mile challenge to raise money for stroke survivors. Mark established the Bowra Foundation in 2019 and had planned to fundraise by cycling, swimming, paddling and walking from John O’Groats to Land’s End but, due to COVID-19, he adapted the challenge to use some static equipment and set off virtually on 03 June. “The inaugural Bowra 1000 was superb.
