General Sir Adrian Bradshaw KCB OBE

Meet General Sir Adrian Bradshaw KCB OBE

Trustee for Blesma since:

11 June 2017

Their Story

General Sir Adrian Bradshaw KCB OBE

Adrian Bradshaw was commissioned into the 14th/20th King’s Hussars in 1980.  He joined Blesma following a distinguished military career, in which he served in Armour, Helicopters and Special Forces, including command of the King’s Royal Hussars, 7th Armoured Brigade and the 1st (UK) Armoured Division, culminating with being the Deputy Supreme Allied Commander in Europe.

Adrian joined the Board of Trustees and was elected Chairman in 2017.

“I see my role as one of guardianship and my primary responsibility is to ensure that nothing stops Blesma fulfilling its role.

Blesma brings people together with shared experiences and understanding. There is a community with shared background. You don’t have to explain some things when you are in that company

I have been intimately involved in Iraq and Afghanistan, and Northern Ireland before that, and the loss of limbs almost defined the injuries from those campaigns. We started to see triple amputees surviving with serious life-changing injuries, and aside from the trauma of the aftermath, they have the rest of their lives to live.

The obligations of the state only reach so far and Blesma is the charity that really understands the issues and the problems that come with these injuries.

It is the charity of all charities that have expertise in this area."
