Andy served in the Royal Military Police for 22 years reaching the rank of Warrant Officer Class 2 (WO2). His service took him around the world including an operational deployment in Beirut in the mid 80's - following which he was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM).
In 1989 he was seriously injured by an IRA car bomb in Colchester, losing both legs above the knee and suffering severe damage to a hand. He joined Blesma shortly afterward and continued to serve on in the Army.
After his discharge, he moved to Yorkshire where he joined the Leeds and District Branch of Blesma and soon became a member of the Management Committee. Subsequently he became a very active and enthusiastic Branch Secretary and Branch Treasurer and was the last Chairman of Blesma's North East Area. He joined the Board of Trustees in 2007.
